Sir Brian

Tenerife Animal Sanctuary’s first ever mule!

Meet Sir Brian, our first ever mule! We don’t know much about his history other than he spent his life tethered up in the mountains. And when he came to us, it was immediately clear that he needed help. He is severely overweight and suffering from laminitis, a painful and potentially devastating condition.

This is a complicated case and not something we can fix overnight. Laminitis can be incredibly serious. Brian’s feet are carrying far more weight than they should, and every day we need to carefully balance reducing that pressure with keeping him healthy and comfortable. His weight needs to come down slowly and safely, while his feet need careful, ongoing management. His recovery will take months and will involve veterinary care, regular specialist hoof care, carefully controlled nutrition and constant monitoring to make sure we are helping rather than putting additional stress on his body.

And that means his care is going to be expensive. We are raising funds to help cover:
* Veterinary examinations and monitoring
* Regular farrier and specialist hoof care
* Appropriate feed and nutritional management
* Medication and pain relief when required
* Ongoing treatment for his laminitis
* The months of rehabilitation ahead
Sponsor Sir Brian today to help his care and rehabilitation so he can live the life that he deserves!
And why “Sir Brian”?
With the wonderful Brian May visiting Tenerife for Starmus festival and knowing his long history of standing up for animals, we couldn’t think of a more fitting namesake for our rather magnificent new arrival. Perhaps our Sir Brian can even become an honorary four-legged Starmus mascot.
